    Abstract
Techniques for evaluating reliability are essential for designing and improving distribution power networks. Renewable energy, distributed generation, en- ergy storage, electric vehicles, protective device automation, and demand re- sponse systems have been significantly implemented in distribution networks in recent years. All of these technologies contribute to the network’s reliability. The purpose of this thesis is to provide a critical evaluation of reliability evaluation techniques used for distribution network evaluation, emphasizing the importance of increased penetration and more extensive application of control, protection, and communication technologies by distributed energy resources. Detailed analysis and comparison of the various techniques and models used for dependability evaluation will be given for each technology and the suggestions for its implementation. A case study will demonstrate the features and modelling method of reliability evaluation tools for mod- ern distribution networks. Uncertainties in architectural variables and issue parameters are continuously required and should be seen as optimizing to discover an optimum solution. In addition to various sampling techniques, the solution’s efficacy may be statistically assessed. These approaches are used in the conventional reliability-based optimization area in multiple ways.
