Biometrics is a proven and more reliable methodology in terms of authentication where there are many biometrics like fingerprint, iris, voice and gait are serving to score more performance. All the Biometrics are well suited in specific application hence the Iris and fingerprint has produces more accurate result with other biometrics. Biometrics are plays major role in many applications especially in the security and authentication it has very huge place due its performance. Even the day-to-day life the security and surveillance are more significant where the user cooperation is void. In the application of Surveillance, the attributes of the well-defined Biometrics like Near Infrared, Lighting, and Gaze Direction would be lacuna which impacts on the quality of acquired images and the final accuracy the recognition will become reduced. To handle this situation a biometric is needed which do not affect by the environmental and accusation lacuna. To overcome the void, the sclera recognition has been introduced.
Sclera recognition is a division of biometrics technique which identifies the individual on the basis of sclera, bleached portion of humanoid eye, vessel patterns, it included with pupil, iris and surrounded by eyelash and eyelid. The research has proved that human sclera vessel structures are unique for every individual, stable over environment and year acquirable and extractable. The sclera vessel patters provide the flexibility in terms of image quality, Gaze direction, Distance of the image acquisition and camera. The biggest advantage of the sclera vessel structure is that will be captured or acquired non-intrusively with visible wavelengths in normal 12 mp camera. Even though there come some challenges in the recognition is the vessel patters are lies over the sclera which is wet so the reflection may become part of the pupil which effects the isolation of shapes, lighting, health issue and gaze direction may also become a challenging in the segmentation process. Low quality camera is also being used in the sclera recognition for acquisition of eye image which leads the poor quality of the image and which has become challenging in the enhancement process and feature selection process.
